The UW Center for Student Involvement and Leadership (CSIL) will be hosting a bevy of activities Friday at Union Fest to keep up student morale before finals week.
The event has been held annually for the last six years to celebrate the end of the spring semester and school year. Throughout the day, CSIL and 7220 Entertainment have planned events and activities to help ring out the year, including movies, free food, a live concert from early-2000s favorite the Plain White T’s and more.
“This all-day event provides the opportunity for many campus partners to come together to create a great day for students,” said Hannah Ellis, from CSIL Marketing. “There is something that everyone can enjoy. Union Fest is all day so get ready for a full day of fun.”
Coinciding with the final day of classes, Union Fest will feature events starting in the morning and continuing until evening. This event can help students relax and have fun before the stress of final exams.
“This event is so popular because it provides students and the Laramie community with a free day of outdoor fun when the weather is nice and school is wrapping up,” said Ellis. “It is a great time to come together as a community and celebrate a great school year.”
The first event is the daytime activities from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Simpson’s Plaza: laser tag, minute-to-win-it games, yard games and lots of free food prepared by Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. UW alum DJ Zimbo will perform in Simpson Plaza from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., and there will be more free food and yard games throughout the day.
One of the most highly anticipated events for Union Fest is the the Plain White T’s concert brought to campus by the Large Scale Events Committee of 7220 Entertainment. The Plain White T’s are most well known for their 2007 platinum and Grammy nominated hit “Hey There Delilah,” a song that brings almost all millenials back to their elementary school days. This concert is free and will be held in Prexy’s Pasture starting at 5 p.m. with pop singer Chloe Moriondo opening.
Union Fest at Night will start at 8:00 p.m. in the Upper Level of the Union with arcade games, escape rooms, virtual reality, stuffed animal making and more free food. There will also be moving showings of “Ralph Breaks the Internet” at 7:30 p.m. and “Ready Player One” at 9:45 p.m.
“I think it is such an important event because it requires a lot of partnership and teamwork from many departments at the University to have a successful day,” said Ellis. “It also is such an important event for the community because students and the Laramie community can come together and celebrate all that UW and the Laramie community offer each other.”
