From Ivinson Street, lines of students and their families could be seen pushing tan colored moving carts filled with dorm room essentials with the help of volunteers in brown and gold shirts, many who were involved in Fraternities and Sororities.
Moving bins were stacked sky high, some items toppling over onto the sidewalk, forcing families to stop in their tracks and gather all the strayed items before pushing on towards the dorms.
There was a steady stream of students that came throughout the day with a few busy bursts, a few volunteers commented while standing by to help. Even with the crowds of students and heat of the sun, parents and students were able to get through the event with ease.
“We got done in three hours!” one parent said as she stood with her child and another parent.
As many residents of Laramie know, construction has been happening throughout the town near and around the dorms, but many of the parents said that the construction they were previously worried about did not affect their move in.
“We got here early so it wasn’t really a problem,” said one parent.
In the lower level of Washakie, the One Stop Shop was open and sprawled out across the room with tables filled with different resources for students and families to make check-in easier.
Brenda Thayer, with the Residence Life and Dining Business Department, said that it was nice to have all the resources available to students all in one place. Some of these resources included getting their WyoOne ID, buying textbooks, advising, Transit and Parking services and so much more.
Families of students were also appreciative of how organized the whole event was. Many families who finished early were able to gather in and around Washakie to grab a bite to eat or sit outside before the day’s light ran out.
With many volunteers helping keep everything run smoothly and the One Stop Shop containing everything they needed, parents were able to spend most of the day with their kids without the hustle of moving.
For these freshmen, last Friday began as an early start to a busy week as move-in into the dorms and campus life began.
A Cowboy Connect Schedule was given to students filled with the details of events they could go to. Some were required, but others like the Silent Disco, the Cowboys vs Missouri football game, a stadium movie and a party in Prexy’s Pasture were available for students to enjoy while they settled into their dorms.
While move-in for many of the freshmen could
have been scary or overwhelming, the University of Wyoming welcomes each and
every student with open arms in hopes for an amazing first year.
