The Cowgirls fell to the CSU Rams Tuesday night after a tense five-set match against the 16th ranked team in women’s division 1 volleyball.
Though Wyoming took the first and third set, they were unable to obtain a victory as Colorado took the game to five sets.
Wyoming started off strong in the first set leading the Rams 25-20, but soon fell to them in the second 16-25. The Cowgirls were able to work their way back to the top, taking the third set all the way to 29-27, but fell again in the fourth and fifth set.
Outside hitter KC McMahon carried the Cowgirls at the net with 16 kills and three block assists, along with four defensive digs. Middle Blocker Jackie McBride hit a match-high of .480 with 13 kills and five blocks.
Tara Traphagan, outside hitter, had a total of nine kills and one block while Emersen Cyza chipped in with a total of seven kills and another block.
Freshman setter Kyra Slavik helped lead the team with a total of six kills, six digs, and 45 assists. Madi Fields led the Cowgirls backrow defense once more with a total of 23 digs and four assists.
Though the Cowgirls fell to the Rams in hitting as the Rams hit a .278 and the Cowgirls hit a .231, the Cowgirls were able to out-block the top blocking team in the Mountain West District. The Cowgirls had 12 blocks and the Rams had 10.
The Cowgirls will continue with their fourth match in eight days in the Mountain West play as they face Air Force today at 6:30 p.m.
