The number of coronavirus cases in the United States has surpassed all other countries as Laramie reports its first case of the COVID-19.
According to the New York Times, at least 81,321 people nationally have tested positive for coronavirus, with more than 1,000 fatalities. Other countries, including Italy and China, had led the world in confirmed cases until recently.
This news comes just a day after the first reported case of the COVID-19 virus in Laramie. The individual was tested at the Stitches Acute Care Center drive-thru testing site as stated by a Facebook post made by the clinic. Beyond receiving testing, the Albany County resident did not come into contact with any other person after self-isolating at the onset of symptoms. Currently, the individual has recovered and is not in quarantine.
Aimee Binning, the Albany County Emergency Management Coordinator, said the patient probably did not become infected with the virus from contact in Albany County. Governor Mark Gordon continues to insist that Wyoming residents stay home unless absolutely necessary.
The first Laramie case, along with at least 20 others in Wyoming within the last two days reported by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, brings the total number of confirmed patients to 49 in the state.
