The World Stopped for a Moment

Dear COVID-19,

You have officially ruined 2020 for many of us. You have canceled our in-person classes and forced us to go online, made us leave our college dorm rooms and leave our friends behind. For many of students, you have canceled proms, senior sports season and now you have canceled graduation. You have gone too far.

All of our senior moments will not happen now and we can not do anything about it. You have our world spinning in the opposite direction and we cannot stop you. From a senior in college, this year was supposed to be a good year and to walk across the stage and get my diploma. Now for me and the rest of my fellow seniors, both college and high school, we do not get that.

Now it is silly to blame a virus that cannot see or know the damage it is causing but I cannot really blame anyone because our governments are doing the best they can with what they have. I do not agree with a lot of the things that are happening but I do not control the government so I just have to make the best of what I have.

Unfortunately, that is all anyone can do, is hope for the best. As I wipe away my tears as I write this piece I keep hoping that maybe graduation can still happen and that maybe COVID will be gone by May and I still get to walk across the stage, but that is all it is, is HOPE. HOPE is the only thing that can get me through life right now. The HOPE that everything will go back to normal, the HOPE that everything will be okay.

My senior year is gone and all I can say is I am disappointed. I want to be mad at something and the thing I am mad at is not even a tangible thin. I cannot hit it or scream at it. All I can do is wipe away my tears and hope for a better tomorrow.

To my fellow seniors, I am sorry. I am sorry your senior got taken away as mine did. I am sorry that we have to go through this and we are missing so many opportunities to make wonderful memories. I am sorry that we will not get to walk across the stage and get our diplomas. All I can say is I am sorry.

To everyone else, keep HOPING. Keep the HOPE that this virus will go away and our world will go back to normal. HOPE that your senior and other students will be okay. Give them a graduation ceremony if you can, give them a sporting event if possible. Give them the awesome memories they are afraid they will miss out on. Give them HOPE.

For my final words, I just want to say that I wish things were different and I was at school sitting in class wishing I was not in class. I will rather be at campus enjoying the Wyoming sun and the sounds of kids going to school, watching people ride their bikes and skateboards to class. But here I sit in my house in Colorado wishing for a different life. COVID-19, I wish you leave as fast as you came because you have made a mess. But the best I can do for now is HOPE and that HOPE is the only thing getting me through right now.

Sincerely,

A senior who is heartbroken.
