University of Wyoming’s annual fraternity and sorority life (FSL) awards commenced this Thursday on Facebook live. The event acknowledged outstanding chapters and members of the FSL community.
“During the past year, we have had successful recruitments, philanthropy events, socials, retreats and more. We also welcomed a new sorority and a new fraternity to campus,” said Erin Wendover, the Fraternity and Sorority Life advisor.
Alpha Phi is the UW’s newest sorority, and Tau Kappa Epsilon is the newest fraternity.
Fraternities and sororities on campus are facing a different spring semester than most expected.
“This semester our community has experienced a lot of change. Unfortunately, our compass retreat was cancelled, and following an extended spring break, all of our community and university were cancelled or significantly altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” Wendover said.
Still, the FSL staff encourages students to reach out.
“We are here for you all and miss you all.”
Pi Kappa Alpha was awarded Fraternity of the Year, and Chi Omega took home Sorority of the Year. Phi Sigma Rho was recognized for winning the Most Improved Chapter of the Year.
Two chapters won the award for Outstanding Philanthropic Endeavor: Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Mr. Wyoming and Chi Omega’s Swishes for Wishes.
Keegan McLain of Delta Delta Delta was awarded Chapter President of the Year, recognizing her excellence in leadership. Sorority woman of the year is Hayley Stromberg of Chi Omega; fraternity man of the year is Seth Jones of Sigma Chi.
The remainder of the award winners are listed below.
“Thank you to our judges from across the division of students affairs, Jessie Gramm and Dylan Cooper, for making a room in the Union a possibility during this time, and you, our FSL students for making these awards better and better each year,” Wendover said.
