Together, donors have helped reach a $500,000 emergency student fund for the students of the University of Wyoming (UW).
Pokes Make the Difference Student Emergency Fund and the UW Foundation Board agreed to match the donations. They matched a total gift of $250,000, giving a total of over $500,000 in donations as of April 17.
The UW’s office of the president has also agreed to match donations to double all funds over $250,000. This means submitted donations for this emergency fund are still available to be matched. Donations are always welcomed.
These donations have been received from an immense amount of donors, nearly 700 different donors.
The goal of $500,000 has been met for the Dean of Students, but donations are still helpful to the university community, especially during the university’s job freeze and extended enrollment. This also means student jobs are unavailable unless there is an emergent need for them.
Fundraising efforts are being furthered because that amount will not cover everything, according to Chad Baldwin, a UW spokesperson, in an email to the Laramie Boomerang.
The Board of Trustees at UW are to meet this May in an effort to discuss redoubling their efforts and how to proceed with this project further.
These funds go to help students during COVID-19’s financial and health crisis. Support and donations given are highly appreciated and can have a significant impact on students’ lives.
