After being delayed in March and through the summer due to COVID, ‘The World Needs More Cowboys’ events resumed their tour across Wyoming.
On October 9, Pinedale will be the ninth event of 24 total that will be held in each county of Wyoming and also on the Wind River Reservation. It is also the third event held after initially being postponed.
“We follow the safety policies of both the university and the local governors,” said Chad Baldwin, the Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication.
The event that was to be held in Douglas during September was postponed after a spike in COVID cases at the high school. Baldwin said that it is planned for the ‘World Needs More Cowboys’ events to finish their tour by next September.
In Pinedale, the event will be at 5-7 p.m. at the Pinedale Aquatics Center. Speakers will also visit high schools to talk to students.
Dr. Jean Garrison, a professor of Political Science, Public Affairs, and International studies, said the events are a way for the university and attendants of the event ro connect with each other.
“It’s also an opportunity for the president to meet the community and introduce him to Wyoming,” Dr. Garrison said.
The event features UW President Ed Seidel and professors to recruit students for education after highschool. Each county features alumni and current UW students from the local area.
“It’s an opportunity for highschool students to see students who have accomplished something at UW,” said McKenzi Davison, a junior in Animal Science who is from Big Piney in Sublette County.
Davison is among the UW students who will be speaking in Pinedale. She will speak about her experiences at UW and her involvement as an agriculture ambassador, a member of the Pre-Vet Club and in the track and cross country team, and as a necropsy technician assistant with the Wyoming State Vet Lab. She will also be giving an overview of opportunities for new students.
Dr. Garrison said the event is to encourage students across Wyoming to attend higher education either with UW or a trade school.
Dr. Garrison said she talks about faculty perspectives for students to get an insight of working with faculty in classes and research. She also talks about the studying abroad program and the Cheney Endowment that is available to students.
Scott Dahlburg, the head cross country coach, will also be speaking. Dahlburg will discuss the athletics program and the general outlook for athletics after being delayed due to COVID.
