UW introduces new food ordering app; students unconvinced about its practicality

For the University of Wyoming campus, the Dining Support Services has created a new mobile food ordering app, UWYOEats. Some students and faculty are questioning its usefulness.

“I don’t know anyone who has used it, and in all honesty I don’t think anyone will use it because they probably wouldn’t mind waiting in line. There’s probably not very long lines on campus right now,” said Christopher Bury, Exploratory Studies student.

“I think it has the potential to help. I don’t think that the epicenter of the spread of the virus is in lines for food on campus or anything,” said Bury.

Created with COVID-19 safety in mind, the UWYOEats app allows you to place an order ahead of time for any on-campus food establishments, and pick it up with contactless delivery.

Mary Margaret Petix, a Finance student, said, “so far I haven’t heard of anyone else using it.”

Amy Bey, Assistant Director at Dining Support Services, said students who are concerned about COVID safety or who want to be time efficient can use it.

The app has also come under some scrutiny.

To purchase anything at the Rolling Mill Café in the Union, customers are required to download the app to purchase anything at the Rolling Mill Café, in the Union.

“People were pretty hesitant because we ruled it out as an app only pay source when we first started. We had quite a few folks that did not want to use it and would patronize the café if they were forced to use an app” said Bey.

“It seems to be gaining some popularity”, said Bey.

“We have sent out information through our social media posts and it has gone to all the freshman students but we could probably do a better job of reaching out to students who are not living on campus.”
