According to the Albany County Clerk’s Office, Democratic candidate, Sue Ibarra, beat the Republican candidate, Terri Jones, and the Independent candidate, Klaus Halbsgut, Jr, for the County Commissioner seat.
The tally shows that Ibarra beat Jones by 62 votes.
The Branding Iron made multiple attempts to contact Ibarra and Jones for a statement. Neither party responded with comment.
Halbsgut said, “I would like to thank Albany County for their help and support with the first independent campaign for county commissioner. It has been an honor to meet you and discuss your concerns over the last year. Even though the results were not as we had hoped, it has been a privilege to participate in the democratic process.”
“I would like to congratulate Sue Ibarra on her apparent win and wish her as well as all the commissioners the best of luck with all the difficult choice they will face. The decisions they will make are not going to be easy and they will need all of our support to make Albany County a better place for all of us.”
