During the holidays it is hard to be motivated to do anything. I’m always burnt out after finals and all I want to do is watch my favorite movies while laying with my pets. Baking cookies require minimal effort while also tasting great.
Cookies can be as simple as you want. You can get cookie dough from the store or you can make cookie dough in less than thirty minutes and have fresh, homemade cookies.
My family is prone to doing the bare minimum for the holidays which is another reason why cookies are the best. They’re simple, and they don’t have to be festive like every store that looks like Christmas on steroids.
The biggest tip I have when making cookies is don’t bake all of the cookie dough.
If you leave cookie dough you can then use it two ways. You can always make a small batch of cookies fresh out of the oven or you can eat just the cookie dough, pending you don’t care about the risk of salmonella, but if you don’t risk salmonella then what’s the point?
I think it’s important that the cookies are chocolate chip specifically. They don’t need to be chocolate chip, but in my opinion chocolate chip cookies are the best of the classic cookies. They are very hard to mess up the recipe for even the most inexperienced bakers.
Another great thing about making cookies during the holidays is that they can be whatever you want. If you want cookies to reflect being festive, then you can decorate them. If you’re a Grinch who resents anything with red and green, then they can remain as simple as you want.
If you like your cookies gooey then you can take them out early, and if your siblings or other family members prefer them like a hockey puck then you can leave your cookies in the oven for longer.
There are countless recipes for cookies that can fit anything you want or any dietary restrictions you have. With this, they can be great gifts for anyone that are also very inexpensive. There’s always something for everyone.
Cookies fresh out of the oven are the best treat to counter the freezing cold weather. They taste great whether it’s just you, or you’re with your family during the holidays and they are a great way to connect with other people or treat yourself for making it through this semester.
