The Wyoming Forestry Division and Fire Management teams are prepared for the 2021 fire season.
The Skull Creek and Pine Haven fires have been 100% contained. Assistant State Forester and Fire Management Officer Anthony Schultz said 100 houses were evacuated during the Pine Haven fire, but most were saved.
The most recent cause for concern is the West fire, located 47.5 miles northeast of Naples, Utah.
“It sounds like overnight and this morning that one [the West fire] was initially in Colorado and staying out of Wyoming, but Colorado has sent us yet another present,” Schultz said.
The Colorado team is sending multi mission aircraft over the area to gather more information on the spread of the fire and shed more light on the situation.
“The West fire is the biggest issue we’ve got going on,” Schultz said. “That being said, it’s in the middle of nowhere and I’m currently not aware of any high multitude of values at risk.”
Schultz said that the fire has been active since the past weekend, starting Saturday the 19 or Sunday the 20.
Schultz said that people who are interested in being kept up to date on the fires should visit inciweb.org for an interactive map, as well as keep track of social media platforms.
“They’ll have updates for the public, interviews with operations officers and giving overall updates on the fires,” Schultz said. “Talk with local fire departments as well.”
