A campus bus collided with a vehicle in the Union parking lot last Thursday, Feb. 3 at 10:39 a.m. There were no injuries reported and only minimal damage to both vehicles.
According to a police report provided by the University of Wyoming Police Department, there was an estimated $1,300 of damage between the vehicles, with $800 of damage to the car and $500 to the shuttle bus.
“The driver of the car was responsible and will pay for the damages to the bus,” UWPD Chief Mike Samp said. “They were visitors, so they were unfamiliar with the lanes of traffic in that area.”
Campus Fixed Route Transit Supervisor Timothy Nichols was unable to share any information on the name of the bus driver or further specifics on the incident.
Nichols said that any public information must come through the official police report.
“We have footage of the incident that the police say they will consult and review,” Nichols said.
Kristen Cheser was a passenger on the bus when it collided with the parked vehicle on its way out of the southeastern exit of the Union parking lot.
“I was sitting by the stairs on the bus, and I slid halfway down my seat because of the impact,” Cheser said.
“The person in the car got out and came over to the bus door, but they didn’t seem too angry, just inconvenienced,” Cheser said. “I sat on the bus for maybe five minutes and then the bus driver told us to get off and catch the next bus.”
