Five finalists for Dean of the College of Business are presenting on campus at the Scarlett Auditorium, located in the Business Building, from April 7 to April 18.
“I’m very impressed with the unique and diverse backgrounds of the candidates and look forward to their campus visits to learn more about them,” Provost and Executive Vice President Kevin Carman said in a UW press release.
Of the finalists selected, four are currently deans at their respective universities, while one is a professor.
Melissa Gruys, dean and professor of management at Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Richard T. School of Business, holds 22 plus years of experience in progressively responsible academic roles and administration across three institutions, according to Gruy’s CV.
Devrin Yaman, associate dean at Western Michigan University’s Haworth College of Business, coordinated the undergraduate programs, accreditation, recruitment and retention, international and community college partnerships, scholarships, support units and fundraisers for their college, according to Yaman’s CV.
Ronn Smith, senior associate dean at UW’s College of Business, has helped revise college leadership and organizational structure, was on a planning team for budgeting and deployment of about $6 million in ARP funding for entrepreneurship, innovation, and makerspace initiatives, co-directed $50 thousand Ellbogen Entrepreneurship Competition, on target to award over $60,000, along with various other accomplishments.
Scott Beaulier, dean of North Dakota State’s College of Business, has over 15 years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, chair, research director, and dean, along with extensive experience in strategic planning, budget and financial planning, program development, online education, and student success.
Jim Jawahar, a professor at Illinois State University’s College of Business, has extensive experience within academia and administration. Throughout his career, he has served at various levels as a professor alongside multiple administrative positions, including department chair, associate provost, and acting provost.
Finalists Gruy, Yaman, Smith, and Beaulier have already presented to the UW community. Their presentations, alongside their CV’s can be found through the online UW press release.
The final presentation, from Jawahar, will take place on Monday, April 18 from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m. in the Scarlett Auditorium.
