A play in two acts, Murderers is set to premiere on June 23.
The show’s Director, Shea King, is a professor from the University of Reno and was brought here to direct two of Snowy Range Summer Theaters’ productions.
“I am so excited for the moment when the audience clicks with the play.” King said.
“That moment when they say oh, you know?”
Murderers is not the standard theater affair. It’s a pitch-black comedy told in three long monologues, with each performance taking 30 minutes.
The characters, as the title implies, are all murderers.
The play functions similarly to a murder mystery.
The catch is the audience is already given the killer, so the reveal is who was killed and why.
Just like the other Snowy Range productions, the production cycle for Murderers is only twelve days. It’s a highly challenging task but can be quite fun in execution.
Creating a show in such a short time frame is quite a feat in its own right, but Shea is very excited about each and every performance.
“Now that we’re able to produce again, we need to be grateful for the opportunity to perform again,” King said.
King is the Director of both Murderers and Happy Days by Samuel Beckett. He was originally brought in from Nevada for Happy Days but was offered the chance to direct Murderers as well.
Programs like Snowy Range allow for more unique voices in theater.
With more people being brought into the scene, people get the chance to interact and network with professionals outside their usual circle.
“Snowy Range is different. You don’t have to be a student to be at UW to audition.” actor Jedediah Huntzinger said.
With both, its structure and cast creating a unique environment, Murderers is shaping up to be one of the most interesting plays being performed here at UW.
