WY Vote, a nonprofit website created for voter education and engagement, launched a website on Monda June 27.
WY Vote, is based in Sheridan, WY. It has launched a voter information website to contribute to its goal of making sure that all WY citizens receive the information they need to be informed voters in upcoming elections.
Their mission statement reads: “WY Vote is committed to ensuring all Wyoming voters have easy access to accurate information needed to successfully participate as an informed voter in every election. Whether an election covers federal, state, county or local offices and ballot initiatives, each opportunity to vote ensures our values and beliefs are considered in laws and policies at each level.”
Their goal is to “ increase availability and accessibility to accurate, thorough information on processes, requirements, timing, elected positions, and candidates.”
WY Vote was founded to address a lack of voting participation across the state of Wyoming.
A recent survey showed that only 30% of voters in Wyoming participate in primary elections, and 60% of voters participate in the general election.
WY Vote was made to try and increase the number of voters in the primary election.
The website is organized into different sections that provide information on candidates running in upcoming elections, what responsibilities elected officials have, and other resources for registration and voting.
WY Vote and this particular website were founded by Gail Simons of Sheridan, who also runs a nonpartisan blog that provides information about the Wyoming State Legislature.
Candidates running for positions can provide an email address to register themselves on the site and provide more information about themselves and their political platforms.
Other resources on the website include an interactive map that shows users their county page and all the elected offices in the area, as well as a checklist that helps to guide voters through the process of registering to vote and getting more information about upcoming elections.
