College of AG. magazine wins award

Two Univeristy of Wyoming Extension communications team members recently received national honors from the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE).

Tanya Engel and Steve Miller, both from the UW Extension Office of Communication and Technology, received ACE awards for two annual publications produced by the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

“It’s gratifying to see our UW Extension communications team producing work that competes with the best products from some of the largest land-grant universities in the country,” David Keto, manager of the Univerisity of Wyoming Extension Office of Communications and Technology, said.

ACE is an organization made up of communicators, faculty, and administrators from agriculture colleges and agriculture-related industries across the country.

Reflections, The Univeristy of Wyoming’s College of Agriculture annual research magazine, received a gold award in the technical publications category.

Tayna Engel was the graphic designer, and Steve Miller was the magazine editor. Miller is now retired.

“Tanya Engel and Steve Miller have done a phenomenal job translating complex research into an eye-catching and easy-to-understand magazine that highlights the cutting-edge research of our Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station,” Keto said.

Engel was also awarded a bronze award in the phot category for a shot she took of Pital and Pete, The Univeristy of Wyomings draft horse team.

The photo is the cover image for the 2022 Pistol and Pete Calender. It showcases two horses standing in the doorway at the University of Wyoming farm in Laramie.

Carissa Mosness (she/her) is a Senior at the University of Wyoming studying English Literary Studies and Creative Writing. She has worked for The Branding Iron since February of 2022, and during has covered a variety of topics ranging from sports to breaking news.

She plans to graduate in the spring of 2023 and move to New York City where she will pursue her dream of becoming a traditionally published author, as well as working for The New York Times.
