On July 15 and 16, True Troupe performed their adaptation of Macbeth in Laramie.
“I loved what they did with this performance,” Alexia Sanders, one of the attendees at the performance, said
“This is the type of [show] I want to see more of.”
Primarily located in Cheyenne, Wyoming, True Troupe was founded in 2018 to provide entertainment beyond what is expected.
True Troupe’s goal is to better foster a love for theater in the general Wyoming populace and provide classic stories to those who may have never seen them.
In line with other theaters, the Troupe is devoted to providing stories outside the normal range of ideas.
Since its founding, the Troupe has held the Classics in the Park series every summer and has featured something new.
Classics in the park seek to better this and provide those stories to a broader audience.
This year the Troupe decided to adapt Macbeth by William Shakespeare and directed by Amber True.
“The Classics in the Park series is True Troupe Theatre’s annual series of plays that are ‘classical’ literature,” True said.
The play starred Eli James Riggs as the titular Macbeth alongside Erin Kendell as lady Macbeth and many others.
While Macbeth presents its universal story of revenge and tragedy, True Troupe is also aware of certain aspects that are inconsistent with the modern day.
In the program’s notes from their Dramaturg, Katie Overstreet writes, “Even today, people can understand feelings of fear, guilt, over ambition, maybe even a little paranoia.”
She then continues on the nature of women in power and the differences between depictions of the occult in Macbeth and modern-day Wicca.
