UW rodeo cowboy aims for national title

A UW Rodeo Cowboy has set goals for himself that can put himself and his team on the map to win a title.

Cameron Jensen, a senior from Bingham, Nebraska, is starting his second year on the UW rodeo team after transferring from Eastern Wyoming College. Jensen competes in calf roping, steer wrestling, and team roping.

Jensen’s biggest goal this year is to win the all-around title in the Central Rocky Mountain Region with the hope to go on and win the all-around at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, WY.

Donene Taylor, the UW Rodeo mental health performance coach, has been helping out the team and Jensen.

“Donene has been a great help to the team,” Jensen said. “I think she likes helping everybody with their mental aspect. Focusing on the positive and blocking out the negative is a big thing that she’s helped everybody with so far.”

After his first season with the team, Jensen has lots of things to look forward to in his second season. One of them is the last rodeo of the year, the home rodeo.

“Everybody gets nerved up and it’s the final one deciding if you’re gonna make the college finals.” Jensen said. “It’s cool to see everybody and how they react. It’s kind of a big time situation for us.”

The experience for Jensen has been a good one, but what makes it good is the facilities the team is provided with.

“It is kind of a blessing. You get to use this barn all year long, we have nice horse runs and everything’s pretty fun.”
