Wyoming gets second win against UNC

The UNC Bears come to town for the first time since 2013, and the Cowboys come out victorious.

Coming off an impressive win against Tulsa last week, Wyoming was looking to make it two in a row and did precisely that last Saturday.

UNC, led by former Denver Broncos Wide Receiver (WR) Ed McCaffery, was coming off  a tough loss to Houston Baptist and looking to get themselves in the win column.

After some early mishaps from Northern Colorado Quarterback (QB) Dylan McCaffery, he was pulled and replaced by their backup, who led them the rest of the game.

A stellar outing from the Cowboy defense resulted in star Cornerback (CB) Cam Stone grabbing his first career interception, and Kicker (K) John Hoyland cashed in for his third field goal of the game to make it 9-0.

Runningback (RB) Titus Swen was a key player in this game, as he scored the first touchdown on the board late in the third, but one was not enough for him.

After this score, the Wyoming Punt team muffs the snap and puts UNC within nine yards of a score. This defensive drive was one of the most electric sequences of the game. Inside Linebacker (ILB) Oluwaseyi Omotosho picks up his first career sack in a big way, pushing the Bears offense further back.

Unfortunately, the defensive stand came up short, as a holding penalty blessed the UNC offense, and they were able to unleash their trick play. The “Philly Special” was how the Bears finally got a touchdown on the board.

This was the last life that UNC had in them, as Linebacker (LB) Gibbs forced a fumble on fourth down. Gibbs was a key player this game, as his constant pressure could not be handled by the UNC offensive line or their QB.

In the play directly after the sack, Swen took it to the house for his second game score.

The Cowboy defense wasn’t done yet, with LB Shae Suiaunoa returning his interception to the three yards line. Swen capped off his hat trick following this play, notching his third score of the game. Incredible.

With a final score of 33-10, the Pokes take victory formation and now are 2-1.

They will be back in War Memorial stadium this Friday, September 16, and will compete in their first Mountain West matchup against The United States Air Force.
