After college, it is uncommon to hear about how your school athletes are doing or if they made it into the big leagues. The University of Wyoming has 11 players in the NFL (National Football League) today.
Josh Allen, being the most widely known out of them, was picked by the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 draft to be quarterback. There is another alumni UW football player on the Bills team with Allen. Tanner Gentry, a wide receiver, was picked up by Buffalo in 2021 after being a free agent.
Most recently drafted from UW, we have Logan Wilson, who plays for the Cincinnati Bengals as a linebacker. Wilson was a recent graduate after getting drafted by Cincinnati in the third round of the 2020 draft. Wilson is a Wyoming native from Natrona County High School in Casper, Wyoming.
In the 2013 draft, Mike Purcell signed on to be an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers. Purcell has been with many teams but he has recently signed on as a nose tackle for the Denver Broncos in 2022.
On the Jacksonville Jaguars, there are two UW players, Andrew Wingard and Chad Muma. Wingard, drafted in 2019 as a free agent, and Muma in the 2022 draft as a linebacker. Both players remain on the Jacksonville team.
In 2017, Jacob Hollister, who played for UW football team from 2014-2016, was drafted by the New England Patriots. Hollister now holds a Super Bowl ring after New England beat the Los Angeles Rams during Super Bowl Llll in 2019. Since then, Hollister has been traded or signed on with five other teams, including one year on the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen in 2021, and he is now on the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings.
UW football player from 2015-2018, Carl Granderson, signed on to the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent in early 2019. In late September of 2019, Granderson was put on the active roster. Recently, Granderson extended his two year contract to remain on the New Orleans Saints.
Also picked in the 2019 NFL draft was Marcus Epps. Epps played football for the UW Cowboys from 2014-2019. He was picked up by the Minnesota Vikings but then was waived later that year and recently signed to the Philadelphia Eagles. Epps plays as a safety for the Eagles.
Being a UW Cowboy from 2008-2011, TaShaun Gipson was an undrafted free agent and later picked up by the Cleveland Browns in 2012. Gipson played with the Browns until 2016 when he signed a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Moving on from the Jaguars, Gipson has been with two other teams before settling with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022.
Finally, we have Chase Roullier. Roullier played for Wyoming as a center from 2013-2016. In 2017 he was drafted in the sixth round by the newly named Washington Commanders and is still with them as a center in 2022.
