Tuesday, Sept. 27, the ASUW Senate was called to order by Vice President Kathyrne Carrier at 7:03 p.m. Before regular business in the Senate could begin, the Senate considered the confirmation of Langston Bouma, a business management major, to serve as a Senator.
Bouma is President of Pi Kappa Alpha and is a player for the university club hockey team. Senators questioned Bouma on his ability to give time to ASUW.
“My biggest priority is fixing the relationship between the ASUW and Fraternity-Sorority Life community.” Bouma said and he expressed that he would be able to serve as a Senator.
The chamber debated on his confirmation with some Senators in the chamber expressing concern over his time commitments, especially to ASUW, while others supported him in being able to fulfill all affiliation duties.
Langston Bouma was confirmed as a Senator by a majority vote and was sworn in as a Senator.
The Senate proceeded to go through regular business tasks, including to amend the agenda to include the chamber’s consideration of President Brown’s Associate Justice nominee.
The Associate Justice nominee is Jousha Rogers, a first year law student who graduated with a Bachelor’s in Psychology from the university in 2021.
President Brown spoke highly of the nominee and felt that he would make a great Associate Justice.
With no questions for the nominee by Senators, the Senators confirmed Rogers as an Associate Justice unanimously.
The chamber had no legislation to vote on that night and no legislation was introduced. The Senate proceeded to confirm Director Pappas as the Student Media Advisory Board member for ASUW. The Chamber unanimously consented to a budget realignment from reserves giving $5,000 for Giving Day for the Non-Citizen Student Scholarship.
The next ASUW Senate meeting is on Oct. 4, all students are welcomed to attend.
