The Pokes lost a frustrating conference matchup against the San Jose State University (SJSU) Spartans, 33-16, on October 1.
After a loss to BYU last week, the Cowboys were looking to get back into the win column against SJSU.
The Pokes began with a shaky start, with Quarterback Peasley getting hurt on the first offensive play of the game. The backup, Clemons came in and gave the starter a few plays to get back in his rhythm.
Despite the early mishaps, they were still able to get into field goal range, and let Hoyland punch in a kick to make it 3-0.
After this, the Spartans pick up a safety off of a poor play call on the one yard line, taking advantage of the helpless Runningback Swen.
With this, and a questionable call from the referee, all the momentum was in San Jose’s hands.
The two teams traded touchdowns, with SJSU Wide receiver Loving-Black getting in the endzone, followed by an impressive 38 yd TD pass to Wyoming WR Wieland off of play action.
To close out the half, San Jose QB Cordeiro extended the lead to 19-10, with a rushing touchdown in the last 16 seconds of the second half.
In the second half, San Jose fully took over, with an interception that led to another touchdown to make it 26-10.
The Pokes showed a glimpse of a comeback, Peasley picking up Wyoming’s biggest rush of the season, 61 yds. Despite a very forgettable passing night for him, he was great on the ground this game. This led to FB Christiansen scoring his first career receiving touchdown.
Cordeiro closed the game out with a second rushing touchdown, and sent the Cowboy fans home.
The team will travel to New Mexico next week to take on the Lobos on October 8.
