The Cowgirls beat the Spartans in the first set. They then lost the second set by three, the third by 11, and the fourth by six. At the end of the fourth set, San Jose State emerged victorious.
The University of Wyoming was led offensively by junior Corin Carruth. She tallied a total of ten kills in total during the game. Behind her were freshman Tierney Barlow who had eight kills,
and junior Naya ShimĂ©, who had seven. Rounding out the offensive side was freshman Rylee Schulz and Sarah Holcomb, both of which recorded five kills during Saturday’s match.
Barlow and Holcomb each had five blocks at the net, whereas Carruth had four. Sophomore Kasia Partyka also was on the net, leading the way with a career-high of four service aces. freshman Skylar Erickson and sophomore Kendal River had two aces each.
Partyka also led the way with assists, lobbying 19 during the game. In the back row, senior Hailey Zuroske and Schulz each had nine digs in the back row.
San Jose State had nine aces and 13 team blocks which paved the way for them to emerge victorious.
Currently, The University of Wyoming is 10-16 total, and their Mountain West total is 6-8. They are in a three-way tie for fifth place in the Mountain West rankings.
The Cowgirls have two more weeks to boost their rankings in hopes of competing in the Mountain West tournament over Thanksgiving week in Fort Collins, Colorado.
The San Jose State game was the team’s last full week on the road, seeing as three out of their four remaining games will be played at home. The opener for these first four games is on Thursday, November 10, when the University of Wyoming will play the Air Force Academy at home.
