Cowboys win against CSU

The Wyoming Cowboys traveled to Fort Collins this weekend to take on their infamous rivals, the Colorado State Rams. They beat the Rams by a very close margin of 14-13.

The “Border War” between these two teams dates all the way back to 1899, where the teams began their rivalry and still compete for the Bronze Boot to this day.

Along with this win, the Pokes have won all three of their traveling trophy games, against Utah State, Hawaii, and now Colorado State.

To start the game, Wyoming punted the ball away and Colorado State’s wide receiver (WR) Tory Horton took that punt back for a touchdown. The Rams were now up 7-0 without even touching the ball on offense.

After this, Wyoming quarterback (QB) Andrew Peasley threw an interception and took an injury to the head. Jayden Clemons would have to go in for the rest of the game, and ended up with 90 yds and a touchdown on the game.

Wyoming’s defensive line really set the tone for how they would play for the rest of the game, getting a couple sacks to halt CSU’s scoring efforts. Defensive tackle (DT), Jordan Bertagnole ended the game with 2.0 sacks.

Linebacker (LB), Easton Gibbs picked up a sack of his own to force CSU to kick a field goal, making the score 10-0 Rams.

CSU’s WR Tory Horton was the focal point of the Rams offense, racking up 168 yds on 8 receptions.

He made a very nice catch for 48 yards to get into field goal range yet again. This drive was put to a stop though, by cornerback (CB) Deron Harrell, with an interception in CSU’s endzone.

With some frustrating offensive drives, the Cowboys finally cash in for a touchdown as Clemons rushes one in with 34 seconds left in the first half.

In the fourth quarter, QB Jayden Clemons threw his first collegiate touchdown to WR Alex Brown, taking the lead for the first time all game, 14-13.

The Rams had a chance to take the lead again with a field goal attempt, but missed wide left. The frigid weather did not do CSU’s kicker any favors either.

The Cowboys would go on to win the border war by a singular point, and take the bronze boot back to Laramie.

The team will be back in War Memorial Stadium on November 19, for what will be their most important game of the year against the Boise State Broncos. The winner of this game will likely qualify for the Mountain West championship game.
