The Outdoor Program hosted a rock climbing competition for all students to participate in on Friday, December 2nd.
The program often has fun and hosts special events for students, even ones with no experience at all.
The theme of the event was ‘ugly sweater,’ so climbers were nice and cozy as they climbed the rocks of Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center.
The director of the Outdoor Program, Elise D’Alessandro spoke of her love of rock climbing.
“I’ve been climbing for seven years, I like the puzzle piece of climbing. Everyone does it a little bit differently.”
There were several Outdoor Program employees who spent hours setting up the rock wall so all competitors would have a wall they have never climbed on before.
It was an incredible atmosphere, competitors were all supportive of each other and their efforts in winning the competition.
Each climbing route had a point value labeled on it, and competitors would need one witness to confirm that the route was successful, and the points were added to their total.
The winners received a prize pack provided by All Terrain Sports in Laramie, which was given to the top men and women.
An Outdoor Program employee, Kirby Federocko, was super excited about the community coming together to do something they love.
“Everybody has a different style, so it makes it a lot of fun.”
Anyone will be able to go climbing at Half Acre anytime the facility is open, and participate in the community events.
