25 students from the University of Wyoming’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing graduated from their online Master of Science (MS) program during the Dec.10 winter commencement, making it the largest number of winter graduates throughout the program’s history.
On average, 10 – 15 students participated in the program during pre-pandemic years, but numbers continue to rise following the COVID-19 outbreak.
“It is really awesome to be part of this large graduating class. We have all worked hard and been through so much the last two and a half years. It was awesome to meet and work alongside so many amazing nurses.” said Anastasia Baker, one of the 25 graduates.
The University of Wyoming founded the nursing program in 1951 and renamed it to the Fay W. Whitney school of nursing in 2003. Throughout the years, it has expanded greatly and adapted to fit modern times, and the online MS program is just one example of that.
“We came from diverse nursing backgrounds, and it was wonderful to learn from different insights. I am thankful to have met so many wonderful people through this program,” Baker added.
The graduate completed her bachelor’s in nursing with UW in 2007 and returned to get her master’s two and a half years ago in the hopes of expanding her career and mind. She feels the online program allowed her to do just that.
“I was challenged by and learned so much through the UW masters nursing program. It provided a wonderful opportunity for me to build on the nursing foundation that I have established. As I have gone through school and my career, I have learned a great deal and become more well-rounded in the profession I love.”
The online program is not only accredited but also comes with many scholarships available for students, as well as the opportunity for individuals to work at a speed that accommodates their specific schedules.
“UW’s online nursing program is a wonderful option for seeking an advanced degree. I appreciated the semester-style classes as it allowed me to work at a doable pace along with working full-time and caring for my family,” Baker said. “The teachers are very knowledgeable and supportive. They truly want you to succeed.”
