Cowboy Wrestling loses to California

UW Wrestling hosted California Baptist University Lancers (CBU) in a match at the UniWyo on Saturday, Jan. 28. The Cowboys fell short of winning this first ever matchup against the Lancers 22-10.

The afternoon started off with the standout freshman, Jore Volk, who is ranked 22nd in NCAA standings in the 125 pound weight division for Division 1 schools. Volk has been on a winning streak with winning his last five matches. His season record so far is 15-6. Volk lost his match after a tough three periods, losing his winning streak. 

By the third matchup, UW got its first win when Job Greenwood beat his opponent 13-2, gaining 4 points for the team. 

The wrestling squad had back-to-back wins with Jacob Wright in weight class 157 and Cole Moody in the 165 weight class. They each gained the team 4 extra points in the duels. 

The Cowboys in the heavyweight division did not win a match against their opponent from CBU.

The Cowboys ended the duel against the Lancers with a score of 10-22. The wrestling team will have their next home match on Feb. 4, when they host Utah Valley.
