Both the Cowboys and Cowgirls swimming and diving teams competed in the Western Athletic Conference Championships (WAC), concluding on Saturday, Feb 25.
Quinn Cynor was the Pokes lone winner through the meet, and a few school records were broken in the process.
The team finished fourth overall in the WAC championships, ending with 545.5 points. UNLV, GCU and Cal Baptist all finished above UW.
Day one started out with a school record being broken, with Quinn Cynor, Grant Sloan, Reilly Gilbert and Quinn Teller finishing third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:26:67.
It was a podium finish, and got the Pokes out to a great start on the first day of their last meet.
The second day went without a podium finish from any Cowboy, but placed high with another relay team of Grant Sloan, Quinn Teller, Kody Hollingsworth, and Andrew Rodriguez. They finished fourth on the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:20:05.
Some freshmen got some high placements as well, Caleb Ozenne and Charlie Clark placing fifth and sixth in the 500 freestyle respectively.
Day three featured another school record break, Gavin Smith breaking the 100 butterfly record with a time of 47:02.
Quinn Cynor, Kody Hollingsworth each finished on the podium as well, both finishing third in the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke respectively.
On day four, Cynor was victorious; winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:44:30. He was the Cowboys only champion from the meet.
Freshman Charlie Clark finished second in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 15:20:86, an impressive feat for him.
His freshman counterpart Caleb Ozenne also placed fourth in the same race with 15:28:10.
The season comes to a close for the Cowboys, as their long season will have benefited many young swimmers who will be a big part of the program next season.
