Jennifer Kirk, the marketing and communications specialist for UW, was the recipient of the Outstanding Staff Award this year.
The Outstanding Staff Award honors a UW Libraries staff member who has demonstrated noteworthy contributions to the several libraries on campus.
“I felt a significant amount of appreciation with my colleagues from the libraries that took the time out of their day to nominate me for the award,” said Kirk.
The winner of the award is chosen by the library staff themselves.
“The libraries have done this award every year for about 20 years and I was surprised to have received the Outstanding Staff Award,” Kirk added.
As the marketing and communications specialist for UW, Kirk has various responsibilities in her current position including marketing, supervising internships, and program monitoring for the libraries on campus. The team works together to promote programs on campus such as the wellness center and tutoring.
“I love that I come in and everyday is different. I am not doing the same monotonous task over and over again.”
Kirk and her team contributed to the Conversations on Collecting Yellowstone’s Conference last year by managing the websites and designing the conference program.
The upcoming project Kirk will be working on is the promotion of the Writing Center in Coe Library.
“The writing center is just a great way to connect with a peer to learn how to do more scholarly research,” Kirk said.
The Student Learning Commons has various academic support options available to those in need. There are over 6 different kinds of tutoring offered including group studies as well. These programs are made to assist student success.
She emphasized the importance of utilizing the library as a whole to bolster student success.
“The library, including its librarians, are great [resources] and they want students to succeed.”
