After months of campaigning and three and a half days of voting across campus, Saber Smith and Jessica Petri were announced the Associated Students of the University of Wyoming (ASUW) president and vice president, respectively.
Smith and Petri have both served on ASUW before and ran their presidential campaign on the motto “ASUW sucks, let’s fix it.”
“I’m just shocked, and I’m happy,” Smith said. “Thank you all so much. Jess and I are ecstatic to put in the work necessary to create as many actionable, positive changes on campus as possible.”
“We are truly grateful and thankful for the intensity of support we had from students. It showed us that our message resonated and was needed. It truly inspires us to go 111%.”
Afterward, Lucus Hansen, the Assistant Director of ASUW, announced the 21 new and returning senators, which were all decided by who held the majority of the votes at the end of the elections.
The 110th ASUW administration will end at 11:59 a.m. on May 1, with an inauguration ceremony for the 111th administration held at noon where the President-elect, Vice President-elect, and the Senators-elect will be sworn in. The first ASUW Senate meeting of the 111th administration will take place on May 2 at 7:00 p.m.
