The UW Rodeo Team has the end of the season in their sights as the final rodeo weekend approaches. It will be the conclusion to the regular season for many athletes in the Central Rocky Mountain Region.
Hosted by the UW Rodeo Team, JCA Companies Laramie River Rendezvous promises to be a three-day event full of action and audience engagement.
Starting on Thursday, April 27 and running until Saturday, April 29, the weekend will have a total of five performances in the three days. Kicking it off is a night performance on the 27th with the following days each having a morning performance, or “slack”, and an evening performance.
The slack is free admission but the evening performances will each have an admission fee.
During the performances, the audience will be engaged with recognition of members, announcement of the trailer raffle winner, and crowning of the champions on the final night.
Some top athletes to watch out for will be Cameron Jensen, Sage Kohr, Donny Proffit, Dylan Grant, Jacob Wang, Brice Patterson, Faith Hoffman, Bodie Mattson, Rio Nutter, and Emme Norsworthy as they are all within the top three rankings in their respective events. The top three individuals in each event get to go to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR).
“I’m excited to finish off the season right. I’m just excited to do my job again,” said Emme Norsworthy.
Norsworthy is sitting second in the region in barrel racing and building confidence that she will achieve her goals. If Norsworthy stays ranked second, it will secure her a spot to the CNFR in June.
“I hope to do my best. No matter what happens, it’s all I can get.”
Another member, Kassandra Shoemaker, shows excitement towards the upcoming and final rodeo. Shoemaker is sitting seventh in the region in the breakaway roping and hoping to rise up the leaderboard before the season’s conclusion.
“I think it’s always really exciting, the last rodeo. It’s a little bittersweet to see everybody one last time and hang out with your friends from the region and getting to see all the champions crowned,” said Shoemaker.
“It’s really cool to see.”
The men’s team is sitting first in the region with 5,781.66 points and the women’s team is sitting in a close second with 2,915.83 points behind the number one Gillette College Lady Pronghorns who have 3,394 total points.
