The Wyoming Cowgirls volleyball team extended their win streak into double digits and kept their historic start alive on Thursday by defeating the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles in sweeping fashion. The promising 10-0 start by the Cowgirls already matches their overall record of last year.
The first set began as a back and forth battle between the Cowgirls and the Golden Eagles, as the Cowgirls found themselves with just a one point lead about halfway through the set, leading 13-12. From this point on, the Cowgirls would use a 7-0 run to punch themselves ahead of the Golden Eagles and would eventually cruise to a 25-18 win in set one.
The second set was yet again another back and forth battle, as the Cowgirls struggled to pull ahead of the Golden Eagles, who consistently trailed them by just a couple of points throughout the set. The Cowgirls would eventually pull through with a 25-20 win on the set.
The Cowgirls had no trouble finishing the Golden Eagles off in the third set, starting off strong and never looking back. They coasted their way to a 25-15 win on the set.
The Cowgirls impressed both offensively and defensively, recording a .307 hitting percentage and holding the Golden Eagles to a miserable .078 hitting percentage. Tierney Barlow paced the Cowgirls in both categories with 14 kills and 6 blocks in the game. Corin Carruth also had a nice game offensively, notching 11 kills. Kasia Partyka had 31 assists to lead the team, and Skylar Erickson had 8 digs, also leading the team in that category.
The Cowgirls will be back in action at the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday for their last non-conference game at 1 p.m. versus Idaho State.
