The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team took down the Nevada Wolfpack in three sets this Thursday. The Cowgirls split two road games the week before, with a loss to New Mexico and a win over Air Force. The win over the Wolfpack gives the Cowgirls a 4-5 mark in conference play and a 15-5 mark overall.
The first set was a set full of runs between the Cowgirls and the Wolfpack as the Cowgirls would take a 10-5 lead with a quick 5-0 run. The Wolfpack would answer, going on a 5-0 run themselves knotting it up a 10-10. The Cowgirls and Wolfpack would battle to a 15-15 score line before the Cowgirls went on another 5-0 to pull away and eventually win the set by a score of 25-17.
The second set was a dominant one by the Cowgirls, as they found themselves jumping ahead of the Wolfpack early. The Wolfpack would attempt to comeback against the Cowgirls but could never find themselves in the lead, especially after the Cowgirls went on a 6-0 run to win the set by a score of 25-15.
The third set was a much closer one at the start, but it wouldn’t last long as the Cowgirls would once again catch fire and go on a 7-0 run from down 14-15 to pull away and win the set by an eventual score of 25-17.
The Cowgirls shined defensively, holding the Wolfpack to a staggering .011 hitting percentage, while maintaining a .298 hitting percentage themselves. The Cowgirls also held an advantage at the net with 11 blocks compared to the Wolfpack’s 5. The Cowgirls also recorded 20 more kills than the Wolfpack with 43 kills compared to the Wolfpack’s 23.
Tierney Barlow had a dominant game at the net, leading the Cowgirls with 16 kills while also recording 4 blocks. Sarah Halcomb lead the Cowgirls in blocks with 7 and also had 8 kills. Kasia Partyka lead the Cowgirls in assists and digs, notching 34 assists and 9 digs.
The Cowgirls hit the road on Saturday, heading to Fresno, CA to face the Fresno State Bulldogs, with the game set to begin at 2 p.m.
