The Wyoming Cowgirls volleyball team took on the Boise State Broncos this Thursday. In the Cowgirls previous outing on the road, they took a 0-3 loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs, giving them a 15-6 overall record and 4-6 mark in conference play. The Cowgirls dropped their first matchup in four sets against the Broncos earlier this season.
The Cowgirls would come out strong in the first set, charging to a 8-2 lead off a 5-0 run from 3-2. The Cowgirls would keep their momentum and dominate defensively through the set, holding the Broncos to a negative hitting percentage and racing to a double digit win by a score of 25-14.
The second set was more of a battle to start off for the Cowgirls, but they found their groove once again midway through the set and would go on a 6-0 run from 8-7 to pull ahead. The Cowgirls would then cruise to another double digit lead, winning the set 25-15.
The Cowgirls wouldn’t slow down in the third set either, racing out to another early lead as they wouldn’t look back, taking the set by a score of 25-17.
The Cowgirl defense was stifling on the game, as the Cowgirls would record 11 blocks and the Broncos could only muster a .043 hitting percentage with 27 kills on the game. The Cowgirl offense was also efficient, as they would tally a .373 hitting percentage and 42 kills.
The Cowgirls were balanced offensively, but were led by Rylee Schulz with 11 kills and both Tierney Barlow and Paige Lauterwasser followed close behind with 8 kills each. Kasia Partyka had 33 assists. The Cowgirls were led defensively by Barlow and Partyka, each with 6 and 5 blocks respectively. Sierra Grizzle led the Cowgirls in digs with 15 on the game.
The Cowgirls stay at home this weekend against the Utah State Aggies, with the game set to begin at 1 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
