Cowboys Defeat Metro State in Exhibition Game
The Wyoming Cowboy men’s basketball team hosted the Metropolitan State Roadrunners in an exhibition game this Friday in the Arena Auditorium. Since the game is an exhibition, it does not count towards either teams’ record.
The Cowboys would open up the game on a quick 7-0 run that was answered quickly by the Roadrunners with two straight threes and a layup to take a one point lead heading into the first media timeout.
The Cowboys would pull ahead once again off of quick baskets from Oleg Kojenets and Caden Powell and a three from Akuel Kot, but the Roadrunners still stuck with the Cowboys and even took a one point lead twice off the back of three straight threes.
The Cowboys would continue to battle the Roadrunners in the first half, struggling to maintain a solid lead and finding a lot of their production at the free throw line as the Roadrunners remained hot from beyond the arc. The Cowboys would eventually find themselves up 7 heading into the locker room.
The Cowboys would extend their lead to ten out of the break with a Sam Griffin three, but the Roadrunners would pick up where they left off in the first half, making two straight threes again to cut the Cowboys’ lead to 4.
The Roadrunners would eventually make it a 1 point game off an and-one three pointer, but the Cowboys would fight their way back up off two straight and two free throws to extend the lead back to 7.
This still couldn’t pull the Cowboys away from the Roadrunners, as it was a two point game at the halfway point in the second half.
The Cowboys would get in sync after the 8 minute media time out, with Kojenets finding Griffin for a nice basket and Kojenets had the favor returned by Kot as he would slam it home from a nice pass. This would eventually lead to an 11 point Cowboy lead by the last media time out.
The Cowboys would then cruise their way to a 79-67 win.
The Cowboys officially open their season on November 7th with a matchup against Northern New Mexico College, with the game set to tip off at 6:30 p.m.
