After their 24-15 victory over Colorado State last Friday, the Wyoming Cowboys are bowl eligible. This means that for the third straight year the Pokes will play in an extra game after the regular season against a non-conference opponent.
This will be the 6th bowl appearance for the Cowboys under Craig Bohl, who is the most successful coach in the team’s history for wins and bowl games. Bohl is 3-2 in bowl games with the Pokes, with a heartbreaking overtime loss coming against the Ohio Bobcats last December in the Arizona Bowl.
The Mountain West is guaranteed six bowl bids this season. These include the LA Bowl, Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Arizona Bowl, the Hawaii Bowl and a 6th ESPN sponsored game.
With three games still left on the schedule, the Pokes are far from thinking about the end of the season however. They will face off against UNLV this Friday night, and a birth in the Mountain West Championship is still on the line. The Rebels are 4-1 in the conference, and the Pokes are 3-2. Only Air Force has stayed perfect in the Mountain West, so there is still a lot to be decided.
The Cowboys will be on the road against UNLV, and they will look to break an unfortunate trend this season. The Pokes are 6-0 at home and 0-3 on the road this fall, performing well at War Memorial Stadium but struggling while away from Laramie. The Rebels boast a top-25 scoring offense in the nation, with a balanced attack in the air and on the ground.
The game will begin on Friday, November 10th, at 8:45 PM and will be broadcast on FS1.
