University of Wyoming’s Business Resource Network, Wyoming APEX Accelerator, and SBDC Network have partnered together to offer a free workshop for veteran small business owners. The workshops were conducted as individual sessions on Nov. 7 and Nov. 9.
The purpose of this event was “to provide veterans with resources and processes that can help them grow their businesses,” said Maureen Johnson.
Johnson is the marketing, communications, and database manager for the Wyoming SBDC Network.
“[I hope] that we will be able to provide clear and helpful information to veterans searching for assistance in starting or growing their small businesses,” Johnson said in regards to her expectations for this year’s outcome.
The workshop was designed to help the launch, growth, and expansion of small businesses in Laramie. It was open to any small business owner or entrepreneur, however, this past week’s courses were specifically for veterans.
The first course on Nov. 7 was a more general resource that will be available to veterans.
The second course, on Nov. 9, was a more in depth course that covered how the Wyoming APEX Accelerator can help veteran-owned businesses get ready to work for the government as government contractors. These courses, conducted over Zoom, development, certification processes, and other available resources.
While this particular event does purposely fall during the veteran celebratory week, Johnson informs that the information is always pertinent to any small business owner. There are also many courses hosted through the SBDC throughout the year that are veteran specific.
“[The workshops are] incredibly helpful resources and are often referred to in our individual no-cost counseling sessions with entrepreneurs at all stages of their small business,” Johnson said.
