The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team took down the Air Force Falcons this Thursday by a score of 3-1. The win moves the Cowgirls to 19-9 on the season and 8-9 in conference play.
The Cowgirls would jump out to a 10-4 lead in the early goings of the first set, going on a 6-0 run from 4-4 and then a 3-0 run from 10-5 to settle into a nice lead midway through the first set. The Cowgirls would continue to roll, leaving the Falcons no room to come back as the Cowgirls would win 25-13 on the set.
The second set would have a much closer start, as the Cowgirls and the Falcons would trade points back and forth but the Cowgirls would begin to separate themselves from the Falcons midway through the set, with a score of 15-10 in favor of the Cowgirls. The Falcons would make it a game this time around though, as they’d hang around with Cowgirls late in the set even making it a one point game at 21-20. The Cowgirls would persevere, though, and win the set 25-22.
The third set would start as a back and forth affair as well and would continue to be so heading into the midway point of the set as the Cowgirls couldn’t find separation from the Cowgirls. The Cowgirls wouldn’t be able to break away from the Falcons in the set, as they’d be knotted up 21-21 late. The Cowgirls couldn’t pull it off in the third set as the Falcons would take it 25-23.
The Cowgirls would be down 4-1 early in the fourth set, but would continue battling and knot it up at 9-9 early. The set would continue to go back and forth, as neither team could pull away.until the Falcons went on a small 3-0 run midway through the set to take a 16-13 lead and would have another 3-0 burst to gain a 19-14 lead. The Cowgirls wouldn’t let the set get away from them though, as they’d fight back to make it a tie game at 20-20 late in the set. Both teams would battle back and forth, but it would be the Cowgirls that would ultimately prevail 26-24.
The Cowgirls recorded a .353 hitting percentage on the game while holding the Falcons to only .187 and held and held a massive advantage at the net, recording 15 blocks compared to the Falcons 3.
The Cowgirls were led by the offensive attack of Paige Lauterwasser and Corrin Carruth, each recording 14 and 11 kills respectively and Kasia Partyka had 44 assists. Tierney Barlow led the Cowgirls on the defensive front with 8 blocks while Zoee Smith had 10 digs to lead the Cowgirls in that category.
