Wyoming played in its final home game this season this Saturday, and they dominated Hawaii for an impressive 42-9 victory. Andrew Peasley set a career high mark in passing yards on senior day to help the Pokes win their 7th of the season.
It only took Andrew Peasley 3 plays to find WR Ryan Marquez for a 44 yard TD to begin the game. Marquez was wide open, trotting into the endzone to put the Pokes up early.
This was only the beginning of what would be an impressive offensive barrage by the Pokes in the first half. After a quick Hawaii punt, they quickly got back to work. On the Wyoming 11, Peasley found TE John Michael Gyllenborg at the 40 yard line. Gyllenborg streaked down the sideline and into the endzone for what would be an 89 yard TD for the Pokes.
Looking to respond before it got out of hand, Hawaii marched down the field to the Wyoming 2 yard line. However, on a 4th down attempt Easton Gibbs wrapped the Hawaii ball carrier up in the backfield to keep the Rainbow Warriors scoreless.
A back and forth between the two squads would ensue, before Harrison Waylee started the scoring back up for Wyoming with an incredible 28 yard TD dash, diving into the endzone while toe tapping on the sideline.
Before half, Peasley would add another 40 yard TD throw to Wyatt Weiland and Ayir Asante would take a handoff for a 6 yard TD to make the score 35-0.
Hawaii was unable to go anywhere in the first half after their failed 4th down attempt, and QB Brayden Schager threw 2 INTs, one in the Wyoming endzone at the end of the second quarter to Tyrecus Davis.
Hawaii would get a spark early into the third quarter, stripping the ball away from TE Treyton Welch and setting up at the Wyoming 25 yard line. They would only turn the fumble into 3 points however, after a 15 yard sack by Shae Suiaunoa kept them from getting close to the endzone.
After getting the ball back, Wyoming punted. The Rainbow Warriors then pieced together a long, 13 play drive, and Brayden Schager threw a strike to WR Chuuky Hines for a 19 yard score. A two point conversion would fail, making it 35-9 heading into the 4th quarter.
Time slowly drained away as both teams fought back and forth in the final quarter. Hawaii tried to convert on 4th down on their own half of the field, and the Wyoming defense came up with a stop with about 7 minutes remaining. This set up an 18 yard TD rush by backup QB Evan Svaboda.
That would wrap up the scoring in the game, giving a final of 42-9 Wyoming.
Andrew Peasley was 14/17 for 319 yards and 3 touchdowns, throwing a career best for pass yards. Despite scoring only once in the last two quarters, Wyoming would use their strong first half to coast to their 7th win.
The Pokes were undefeated at home this season and set a single season attendance record of over 150,000 fans. They will have one more road contest against Nevada next week to wrap up the regular season.
