Wyoming wrapped up their 2023 regular season schedule with a 42-6 win over Nevada, their first and only win on the road this fall. Andrew Peasley took to the ground and air to add points to the board for the Pokes and the defense pressured Nevada all night, earning 6 sacks when it was all said and done.
Receiving the opening kickoff, it took a drive for the Pokes offense to warm up. After punting it away and forcing Nevada to do the same, Andrew Peasley opened up scoring with an 43 yard TD rush, confusing the entire Wolf Pack defense with a fake handoff that allowed him to jog into the endzone.
On their next drive, Sebastian Harsh brought down Nevada QB Brendon Lewis for a sack, and the opposing player was injured on the play. The Wolf Pack punted it away back to Wyoming. Not long after, Andrew Peasley continued his strong play, finding Will Pelissier for an easy 34 yard TD.
Falling behind quickly, Nevada stepped into action and backup QB Shane Illingworth engineered an efficient drive into Pokes territory. Wyoming held strong however, and the Wolf Pack only added 3 points.
After a quick Pokes punt, Illingworth got back to work. This drive was put to an abrupt end however, when Wyett Ekeler intercepted a pass and weaved, spun, and finally dove into the endzone for a TD, making it 21-3.
As time wound down in the first half, Nevada tried to piece together a scoring opportunity. Returning to the redzone, the Wolf Pack was poised to strike for 7 points. However, three straight sacks by the Pokes’ defense forced them to settle for a field goal.
Building off of their first half momentum, the Cowboy’s kicking team forced a fumble on the opening kick of the half which set them up in Nevada territory. 5 plays later, Ayir Asante caught a 9 yard strike from Peasley to make it 28-6 Wyoming.
The teams continued to battle back and forth in the third quarter, but Nevada struggled to score. After a turnover on downs for the Wolf Pack, Harrison Waylee stretched the lead for the Pokes with a short 2 yard TD run.
As the game rolled into the 4th quarter, Wyoming’s offense didn’t show signs of slowing down. Andrew Peasley tacked on his 4th total TD of the night with yet another rushing score, tying his career high for total touchdowns in a game.
Evan Svaboda stepped in at QB for the rest of the contest, and Wyoming ran out the remainder of the clock to win 42-6.
They earned their first road win of their schedule and moved to 8-4 to close out their season. The most telling statline of the night was Wyoming’s 244 rush yards to Nevada’s 18. Andrew Peasley ran for 96 yards and Waylee had 71 to lead the Poke’s relentless rushing attack.
Sebastian Harsh had 6 total tackles and 2 sacks, leading the defense. Meanwhile, Wyett Ekeler had an interception and 5 total tackles, and Wyoming kept Nevada out of the endzone.
Wyoming will play a final bowl game that will be announced in early December. Until then, the Pokes return home 8-4 with a 5-3 conference record, just short of a shot at the Mountain West title. Nevertheless, Wyoming will have one more game to cap off an incredible season, despite the ups and downs.
