Levi Williams, the former quarterback for the Pokes has announced that he will forgo playing his last season at Utah State. He intends to apply for Navy Seal training after the 2023 season.
He made his announcement on the Salt Lake City radio station KSL 97.5 FM this Monday.
“It’s something that took a lot of thought and consideration. I love football and it’s so great but I knew that eventually it was going to come to an end,” Williams said.
Williams has a strong family background in the military, which played into his decision. “My mom, she was in the Army. My grandparents were Navy and Army, so it kind of runs in the family. I just want to be in a spot where I can protect this great country where we get to play football.”
Williams spent three seasons in Laramie before transferring to Utah State after 2021. At Utah State, Williams never found consistent reps, throwing for just over 300 yards in his two years for the Aggies. His biggest moment came only last week, when he led Utah State to an overtime victory over New Mexico after the injury of Cooper Legas.
He plans to take his physical tests just after the end of the bowl season.
