The Pokes dominated the Fresno State Bulldogs all game to win 86-47. Mason Walters nearly got a double-double and Wyoming shot 57% to wrap up their regular season ahead of the Mountain West Championships next week.
The Wyoming Cowboys hopped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a fast five point effort by Mason Walters, along with a bucket by Caden Powell. Fresno State battled back however, and quickly closed the gap back to 3, making it 11-8 at 14:33. Not long after though, Walters splashed his second 3 and scored a layup, taking his total to 12 points only 7 minutes into the game.
The Cowboys were passing, shooting, and finishing in the paint very well to start the game, making it 22-13 at the 11:38 mark in the first. As the half ticked away, Wyoming kept their lead by at least 8 points, and even extended it out to 16 right before the break, thanks to two consecutive Sam Griffin 3-pointers and layups by Cam Manyawu. At the end of the half, it was 46-30 Pokes.
The Cowboys were shooting an impressive 63% at the half, showing a complete offensive effort, with 7 players over 4 points. Walters led the Pokes with the 12 points that he got early, along with 4 assists. Wyoming also held Fresno State to 39% shooting and forced 5 turnovers.
Out of the gate, Kot nailed a jumper and a 3-pointer and Walters cashed a layup to make it 53-30 almost immediately into the second half. From there, the Pokes continued to play at a comfortable pace. A Wenzel three took their lead to 25 at 13:31. Wyoming would not stop their barrage, and Kobe Newton splashed a three to give them a 70-38 lead with 9 minutes left.
From there, it got ugly for Fresno State. Wyoming took their lead all the way out to 41 at one point before winning by a final score of 86-47. Kot ended with 17 points and Walters nearly recorded a double-double, scoring 14 and grabbing 9 rebounds. Wyoming shot 57% and held Fresno State to a miserable 29%.
Wyoming ends the regular season 15-16 and 8-10 in the conference. The Pokes will face off against Fresno State again this Wednesday at 11 A.M. to kickoff their Mountain West Championship campaign from Las Vegas, Nevada, after earning the #8 seed in the conference.
