Stan Lee Super-Con

Stan Lee brought hundreds of heroes to life across his career in comics and became a hero himself to the millions of Marvel fans who grew up on his works and his work is now brought to life once more at the Stan Lee Super-Con.

Event organizer Scott Hiney gives students some context on why this event is happening, “The Stan Lee Super-Con is meant to recreate a ‘comic con’ experience to the campus of the University of Wyoming in honor of ‘Stan Lee: Beyond the Book’ exhibit at the American Heritage Center on Campus.”

Students and other attendees will have the chance to browse rare archival items and will also have the chance to browse and buy comics from the vendors present, as well as meet an artist who worked directly with Stan Lee, Alex Saviuk.

The convention is intended to be an enhancement to the museum exhibit. Some highlights of the con include, “a special Stan Lee presentation at noon for attendees on Saturday in the UW Conference Center,” as well as “Hazel Homer-Wambeam, a recent UW graduate, taking part in the con’s opening ceremonies and moderating a live Q&A at 1pm featuring the voices of Rogue and Gambit, Lenore Zann and Tony Daniels, from the X-Man Animated Series.”

The convention itself is ticketed with a special student discount both online and at the gate Saturday and Sunday at a cost of $7.50 per ticket. There is also a VIP Student ticket which includes an exclusive “Super Stan” poster and button.

Hiney added on the context behind the event, “Comic conventions are pretty typical in big cities like Denver and Salt lake City, but less so in smaller towns. The Stan Lee Super-Con is a scaled replica of the experience right on campus in Laramie.”

This convention is likely a one off event as the exhibit will close at the AHS after November 1st and it could potentially be years before some of these items are publicly accessible again.

The convention is an opportunity to engage with a comic convention, honor the widely beloved Stan Lee, and see the unique and rare AHS exhibit.
