The nationally known FOX television show “American Idol” has made some adjustments for its upcoming 12th season. The show has announced that the tour will be making stops in America’s smaller cities in search of singing talent. This is a new addition to the show in which producers are hopeful about the outcome.
According to the show’s website, the new “Small Town Audition Bus Tour” has posted about making stops in cities including Idaho Falls, Idaho; Billings, Mont., and Casper, Wyo., starting next month as part of their 10-city tour. Other small town auditions are being scheduled in Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas and Colorado. Specific dates, times and locations are to be announced.
The show has also announced that they are accepting online video submissions for two weeks starting Aug. 1 for those who may not think of trying out. Contestants are asked to perform a song from the approved list a cappella and are limited to one entry per person. Contestants must be legal citizens or permanent U.S. residents who are eligible for work and be between the ages of 15 and 28.
The “Nominate An Idol” program will allow friends and family to secretly nominate a singer by uploading a video and filling out an application. The contestants will be surprised with an appearance on TV and the advantage of moving on to the next round of the competition.
It was announced on the show’s website on July 23 that singer Mariah Carey will be a judge in the upcoming Idol season replacing Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler. The show has not publicly announced the other judges at this time.
The show has been recently nominated for three Emmy awards according to the show’s website. The show has been rated the number one entertainment show for the last nine years. This year’s season will start in January.
