Trip to see 'Hairspray'

Both University of Wyoming students and non-students can enjoy a live performance of the musical “Hairspray” Thursday, Aug. 2, at the Carousel Dinner Theater in Fort Collins, Colo.

Tickets, available at the Wyoming Union information desk, cost $20 for UW students and $25 for non-students. The ticket price includes admission to the show, dinner and transportation to and from Fort Collins. A charter bus will leave the union parking lot at 4 p.m. Thursday and will depart from Fort Collins immediately after the show. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dinner will consist of a salad, standard entree choice and one non-alcoholic drink of coffee, tea or soda.

Winner of eight Tony Awards, “Hairspray” will introduce the audience to the hefty heroine Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big dreams and even bigger hair. Taking place in 1960s Baltimore, the show addresses some heavy issues when it comes to the problems of racial inequality at the time. The upbeat and hilarious show uses catchy music and choreography to bring about an educational message about racism, pop culture and self-acceptance.
