A perfect 4-0 record at the UniWyo Wyoming Invitational for the second time in three seasons kicked off the Cowgirl’s 2012 volleyball season.
The Cowgirls defeated both Presbyterian College and The University of San Francisco on Friday and continued their victory, beating Eastern Washington and Seattle on Saturday.
During Friday’s matches, the Cowgirls defeated Presbyterian 3-1 and swept San Francisco 3-0 in their first two matches of the regular season.
Saturday, Wyoming defeated Eastern Washington 4-0 in the first match, bumping their record up to 3-0.
During the second match, the Cowgirls pulled away from the Seattle Redhawks 2-2, winning in four sets to capture the tournament title.
Over the course of the tournament, junior Becky Stuart was named the Most Valuable Player while senior Jodi Purdy and junior Reese Plant earned all-tournament team honors. These honors added to the Cowgirls’ already outstanding weekend.
“I think any time you start 4-0 it is a great confidence booster for your team,” head coach Carrie Yerty said.
“Through these first four games our team has played with a great level of intensity, but we have been very focused and relaxed on the floor. As for Becky earning the tournament MVP, she has really linked our team so far. She has great reading skills and can move all over the floor.”
