The University of Wyoming football team stands at 0-3. Most fans would give up or get mad at the team, but the Cowboys are not a typical NCAA Division I football team, so why should the fans be typical?
Poke fans, I call on all of you to help and show your true Cowboys spirit. The team cannot get any better if it knows its fans have turned their backs on it.
The record is not great right now, but the peak of this mountain is this — we have not even started conference play. Our first conference game is Saturday Oct. 6 at Nevada.
Nevada’s stats are similar to UW’s stats. Their running and passing games are good, but they are 2-1 and first in the Mountain West Conference as of Sunday.
The difference between Wyoming and Colorado are Brett Smith and Colby Kirkegaard, players who have the potential to be the best quarterbacks UW has ever seen.
The team has a ton of talent and it was shown in the season opener against Texas. We put up a fighting chance and scared Texas a few times.
We still have the potential to do the same to any team in our conference. The first few games before conference play starts are important, but they are not as critical as the actual conference games.
If the Cowboy players stop the run and the other team’s passing gems then we have already won half the game. Our offensive team is good this year, but it is only the other half of the fight. If the offensive team keeps pushing like it is and our defensive team stops the run, then we have a chance to be the best in the conference.
Last season we went to a bowl game with an 8-5 record overall and a conference record of 5-2; there is still a chance.
If you are a true Cowboy fan, you will not have given up already. The current record is temporary. There are nine games left, and eight conference games remain. Cowboy football still has a chance. Do not give up yet.
