The University of Wyoming men’s club hockey team came back this weekend with two wins under their belt after beating the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in two games Friday and Saturday.
The team has a record of 6-1 so far this season and is moving into a by-week this weekend. It will play University of Colorado-Denver in Denver on Nov. 2 and return for a game in Laramie Nov. 3.
The UW club hockey team won its last two games with the help of Levi Wood, who scored two goals Friday night against UCCS. Jake Bates and Ethan Crockett also scored goals against the UCCS to come home with an 8-4 victory.
On Saturday, the Cowboys beat UCCS in overtime with 6-5 win.
Colton Westby, a rookie for the Cowboys, had a hat trick in the game with the overtime goal. Jake Bates and Sam Dielwart also scored goals against UCCS.
This season the team already has won against Colorado Mesa University, CU-Boulder and University of Northern Colorado. The team is in a position to take a championship title.
The men’s hockey team has not had an American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) National Championship since the 2000-2001 season. It secured second place the next season 2001-2002.
The ACHA regional tournament will be Feb. 15-16, and then the ACHA championship tournament will be March 12-16, 2013.
