The men’s and women’s swimming season started Saturday at the Denver University swimming relays in Denver, Colo.
The women beat Denver with a score of 201-173. The men also won the meet, beating Denver 172-170 and crushing Air Force 172- 94.
Both the Cowgirls and Cowboys will be a force to be reckoned with after this meet, showing their talent and skill.
“This is a great win for our program,” Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson said. “The last time we came down here in January, Denver beat us pretty handily, but we came out and swam great today. This was a very positive effort and I am proud of how we swam today.”
The women won seven of their events and the men won six events.
The women began winning with the 1500 freestyle relay, then won again in the 300 breaststroke. They placed second in the 200 medley relay and both the 300 butterfly and the 300 backstroke.
The Cowgirls won all of their other races including 100 freestyle, 100 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 400 medley, 400 freestyle relay and the 500 freestyle relay.
The Cowboys won 1500 freestyle relay, 100 freestyle, 100 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay and 300 butterfly. They also took first and second in the 500 freestyle relay.
The men placed second in the 400 medley relay and the 300 backstroke and took fourth in the 300 breaststroke.
The Cowgirls will travel to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State on Oct. 27. The Cowboys will have their next meet Nov. 10 against Air Force Academy.
